Sal was born to Vince and Rosa Cardinale on December 8, 1932 at the El Adobe Hospital in Monterey (now the present site of the Pacheco Club)
He has two brothers, Sam and Anthony and two sisters, Grace Bradley and Vita Fata.
Sal grew up in the Oak Grove area of Monterey which is located next to the Naval Post Graduate School. He attended Oak Grove Elementary School, Walter Colton Junior High, and graduated from Monterey High School in 1950. He went on to study at the University of Redlands and graduated in 1954 with a B. A. degree in Business Administration. Both in high school and college Sal was an active football player.
Sal and Angie lncaviglia were married on December 26, 1953. They have four children: Vince, Roseann Orlebeck, Annamarie Sheriff and Sally Cardinale. Angie and Sal have a total of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Sal and Angie met at Monterey High school all those years ago. Congratulations.
In 1957 he started in the moving business with Dean Van Lines. The business was located on Cannery Row at the site now occupied by Sly McFlys. In 1962 he became manager of the Pierce Rudolph Company in Seaside. In 1972 he purchased the company and changed the name to Cardinal Moving and Storage. In 1998 the business re-located to the Castroville Industrial Park.
Sal and Angie have since turned over the day to day operations of the business to Son Vince and daughters Roseann and Sally. Daughter Annamarie lives in Texas. Their grandson Adam Orlebeck has worked as the Director of The Portable Storage Container Division for six years. Sal and Angie work two half-days per week as a way to keep in touch with the business and also it gives them something to do. Cardinale Moving and Storage is a real family business.
The company and family have been very active in the community in many ways. They have joined service organization, sponsored Youth Sports, were charter sponsors of Bobby Sox Girls softball league, and are currently sponsoring a boys baseball team and a girls softball team. They have been members of the Monterey Chamber of Commerce for 38 years and are active in their trade association. They have also provided and donated moving services to local non-profit agencies.
Their son Vince is a former chairman of the California Moving and Storage Association, a statewide group of movers. Their daughter Roseann is currently the president of the Castroville Rotary Club, which is very active in the community, and their daughter Sally works as the Girls Athletic Director and JV softball team coach at Robert Louis Stevenson School.
Sal is a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Monterey and past president of the Monterey Bay Chapter of the California Moving and Storage Association. He is also a past Director of the State CMSA and a founding member and past president of the TIP Club of Monterey.
