Theresa Canepa is a native of Monterey. There are not too many of these left. She was born on April 1, 1936. Theresa attended local schools graduating from Monterey Union High School. Her roots are strongly planted in the Italian American community. She is proud of her heritage, and the history of Monterey. After she graduated, Theresa was employed by the Monterey School District for 30 years. She worked for five years as a school secretary continuing with the school district for the next 25 years in the Adult Education department as payroll and attendance secretary. After a very successful career, she retired in August of 1993. Theresa has been married to Louis M. Canepa. another Monterey native, for 43 years. The two met when they both attended Monterey High School. Theresa was a sophomore and Louis was a junior. After an on and off relationship, they married when Theresa was 23. They have 3 sons of which they are very proud. They also boast 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter whom they love dearly and as most grandparents, love to spoil. Soon there will be a new little granddaughter to spoil.
After raising her family, Theresa turned her attention to public service. She has served on the Monterey Parks and Recreation Commission for 2 years from 1981-1983. For many years, 21 to be exact, she was a member of the Monterey City Council, and served as Vice Mayor for 3 years.

Theresa had to take a break from her busy schedule for a few years to take care of her health but is now better than ever. She continues to be involved in creative crafts and loves to crochet and knit She is always in the middle of creating something for her family and friends. Theresa has had a big influence on what has happened and is happening in Monterey. She loves everything about Monterey. As a true native of Monterey, her heart belongs to her hometown, and her hometown is grateful for all that she has contributed.
