Anthony Davi HONOREE 2020

Anthony Davi was the first-born son to Vita and Guido Davi on February 4, 1939. He is a Monterey native lifetime resident and business owner on the Monterey Peninsula. Growing up he lived on Jefferson Street along with his brothers Sebastian, John and sister Rose. Anthony graduated from Monterey Union High School in 1957. While in high school he met Anita, who later became his wife and partner in life. Anthony fished commercially by his dad’s side gill netting for salmon along the Sacramento River throughout his high school years 1953-1957. After graduating from high school, he worked in San Francisco at his uncle’s fish packing cannery company on Pier 92. Later he returned to Monterey and began working at his father’s insurance and real estate firm.

Anthony began his professional career in the early 60’s selling casualty and life insurance. In 1962 he obtained his real estate agent’s license and in 1963 his real estate broker’s license. In the late 1960’s he began devoting more of his time to residential real estate sales and gradually developed his skills in commercial properties sales, commercial leasing, investing, developing and managing real property in California and Arizona.

In 1980 he decided to forego the insurance business and founded A.G. Davi Ltd, a professional real estate and property management company based in Monterey. Anthony credits and is grateful to his mother and father for instilling in him a strong work ethic from a very young age, which has guided him throughout his business and personal life. During his real estate career he has brokered numerous real estate sales and tax deferred exchanges including but not limited to business opportunity sales, shopping centers, motels, apartment complexes, industrial properties and residential subdivisions, including several hundred acres of farmland in East Contra Costa County.

Anthony was always trying to improve his skills by attending numerous real estate seminars. His related business experiences include real estate consultations, arbitration expert witness and the formation of several investment partnerships. Today A.G. Davi Ltd is a successful family business and is owned and operated by his daughter Tina and his two sons Jeffery and Anthony Jr.

Beyond running his family business, Anthony served in a number of roles, including serving as either president and/or director in many business, civic and religious organizations, including 2 years as the President of the Monterey Independent Insurance Agents Association; co-founder and President of the Monterey Commercial Property Owners Association; Board of Directors of Old Monterey Business Association (1991 – 1993), Director Monterey Peninsula Board of Realtors (1983 – 1984). He served as a valuable board member on the Monterey Diocese Catholic Building Committee, the former Carmel Art Museum and Capital Campaign Chairman for the Kinship Center, a statewide foster care and adoptive agency. He was the 2013 recipient of the Monterey Bay Junior Achievement Award and the Monterey Bay Business Hall of Fame Award.

He served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Monterey Junior Chamber of Commerce (commonly known as the Jaycees; an organization that empowered young professionals to make a positive change in their community 1967 – 1970); honored as Jaycee of the year in 1970 and thereafter elected to the prestigious Jaycee Senate. While a member and President of the Jaycees, he led the effort in requiring the Monterey County Health Department to post warnings of unsafe water along the Monterey beaches. He was actively engaged in the revamping of Dennis the Menace Park, building of the first public BBQ in Veterans Memorial Park in Monterey, Chairman of the 10th Annual Monterey Rugby Tournament, a volunteer at Laguna Seca Raceway and many other community related activities.

Anthony has been involved in many local and international charitable causes and activities. He has raised funds for Robert Louis Stevenson School and CHOMP. He personally provided a student scholarship at the Mont. Institute of International Studies. He anonymously provided tuition for a brother and sister who had lost their father suddenly so that they would not have to leave the local Catholic school they had been attending. Since 1991 he has been active in working with his son-in law, Dr. John Faia, in providing dental treatment to people in developing countries who have no access to dental care, due to poverty or living in an isolated location. In 2000 after doing this work through various other non-profit organizations, he was a founding board member of International Health Emissaries (IHE) which is based in Monterey. He has been an active board member for 19 years. Their services have been provided to children and adults in Argentina, Belize, Cambodia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nepal and Peru. He and his wife Anita provided the funds for a clean water well for a poor family in Cambodia through IHE’s clean Water Well program.

Anthony’s hobbies aside from real estate are travelling, boating and spending the winter months in the California desert communities. He and Anita enjoyed travelling in Europe, Italy being their favorite. They travelled in their motorhome throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada; boating in the San Juan and Canadian Islands in the northwest and in the California Delta. They cherish the memories of water skiing with their children and grandchildren in numerous California lakes and the delta.

Anthony and Anita reside in Pebble Beach, CA and are most proud of their children, Tina, Kathleen, a CPA, Guido who is retired and lives in Arizona, Jeffrey, Anthony Jr., their 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
